November Mentor Reflection

 So far, I have visit my teacher mentor two times not including the meeting I am going to talk about in this blog post! As we may know November is the month for thankfulness and,with that being said I wanted to discuss Ms.Spradlin's journey into becoming a teacher. Ms.Spradlin gave me a word of wisdom while we were watching the students play at their first recess. She said that in all her years of teaching she has noticed and or observed that each student she teaches has a different journey. Each child is their own person and each child gives her something to dwell on and think about everyday about herself. Previously, in class we spoke about how children may be small and young in age but they impact adults as well which I see turns out to be very true. Although our discussion was small because I was pressing for time I thought hard about Ms.Spradlin's job and everything she has to take on. It was hard for me to remember each students' name, which I know was a stressful job for her (LOL)!

    What wonderful bits of wisdom from your mentor. I especially like her point about each child being on his on journey. It is important we see each student as a unique individual and treat each student as a person rather than a test score or a student id number.

During the month of October I had time to think about "my next step in life"! Of course this is senior year, so time is running out! My meeting with my mentor went very well because I had the chance to talk to her and explain to her my concerns about college, and paying for it. I explained to her that I wasn't ready to attend a four-year college after high school, so my plan is to attend Pulaski Technical College for two years and then transfer to a four year. Ms.Spradlin's response was that she thought my plan was a good idea, and would give me time to figure some things out. September Mentor Reflection

Since I have made a decision to be apart of the Excel Teacher Cadet Program one of my responsibilities or requirements is to a mentor! A mentor is someone who guides you, helps you, and make sure that you are on the right path! The process we took to finding a mentor showed us professionalism, consistency, networking, and responsibility. I arranged to meet with my mentor on September 26, 2019. When I first arrived to the meeting with my mentor we talked about my plans, and what I had been up to over the years. I spoke to her about my current home situation, and some of my plans for paying for college and my plans for the current year and for the year of 2020. My mentor encouraged me and enlightened me on what she thought what be best for me. I stayed with my mentor for the whole day and after it was time for her to go get her students from pull-out she came back to the classroom and told the students to get out their " magnetic boards". A Time of Realization

 It has taken me a long time to take a step towards change, and having consistency. During the month of September I was given the opportunity to really put my goals into action. The Excel Teacher Cadets were asked to attend a meeting with different school districts, entrepreneurs, and educators in discussing ways and methods to change the educational system. When we first arrived at the meeting we were sat at the front of the room with hundred of adults surrounding us, which was scary and nerve wrecking for me! The speaker or head coordinator of the meeting asked all the Teacher Cadets to introduce themselves stating " what grade we were in", " what school we attend", and "our names"! After, we introduce ourselves the coordinator asked for one of the teacher cadets to speak about an issue we think is happening in the educational system.
